Quick post as I'm at the airport about to board a flight, but it is now confirmed. Unai Emery is the new manager of Aston Villa.
He joins us from Villarreal where he has been the manager since 2020 after getting sacked by Arsenal the year before. joined the La Liga side in 2020, having been dismissed by Arsenal in 2019, with a 55% win rate according to WIkipedia.
While at Arsenal he also led them to the final of the Europa League, losing to Chelsea in 2019.
Since at Villarreal he won the Europa League and guided the side to last year's Champions League semi-finals, where they were defeated 3-2 by Liverpool on aggregate. Villarreal are currently seventh in the League.
Decent appointment, with something to prove. This should be quite exciting and for those that didn't know, he was the first choice for Newcastle, but he turned them down.
