It would be very easy to moan about our recent run of form. It was also easy for me to write that when we lost to Wolves, unless we saw an immediate change in how we approach games, we probably wouldn't get top five.
But these things are not just easy to write they are not the right approach. I reacted. I should have known better.
When Aston Villa appointed Alex McLeish, it was easy to write it was a dark day for Aston Villa. When we got relegated, it was easy to write that we should have appointed Steve Bruce that very day. And it’s also very easy to write that as Aston Villa fans we haven’t had it this good in the Premier League era. And that our decline began when we lost our three best players.
Those things were easy although I suspect many will disagree on the Steve Bruce part. But under Unai Emery, we've never had it this good. We shouldn't forget that. We shouldn't forget where we are. And we certainly shouldn't forget the conditions in which we are operating and I don't just mean financial, I mean VAR.
So we have to remember. And not try to make it easy.
And the players have to remember that they are part of a squad that got to where we are and for some of them, they have to find a little extra. They have to move a little quicker. They have to look up and think before playing that pass and they have to do all of this sometimes before the ball has even come to them and in a split second.
I could make a joke about what I can't do in a split second, but I think you could all make a list.
No, it’s not great at the moment and this squad of players, missing 30% from the preferred starting 10 have to do this on Thursday, Sunday, Thursday and Sunday again. And if they don’t get six points and through to the next round of Europe, they have to deal with everything else also.
But we have to trust the manager, he knows what he's doing. We have to trust the players, they know what they are doing. And we have to believe. There is no point going into a match thinking it's over before it is or if we don't get the right result, venting on social media. And there is no point because we don't have Alex McLeish, we don't have Steve Bruce, we don't have the fake Doctor.
We have two of the best owners in the League and Unai Emery. And we have four matches in ten days to look forward to. There are many things I couldn't do four times in ten days.
Back on Thursday, keep the faith.
