Everton at Villa Park and match facts from the BBC

I think I heard something the other day that there is another international break coming up in a few weeks. Why and who cares? We know why, money. And now I've answered that I guess that also answers the question around who cares.

And that my friends is how you get exploited.

Anyway, today isn't about anything else other than Aston Villa and a little later today, we have Everton coming to Villa Park. And even though they look like one of the sides that will either be replacing a manager very soon or getting relegated, we should not dismiss that they are a Premier League side, anything can happen on any given day and they're like a wounded animal.

I don't think we'll go into any game under this manager thinking we will win, but as supporters I think we need to be prepared for anything today. As long as there are no protests. That would be quite embarrassing. Protesting that we're in the Champions League after getting promoted back into the Premier League in 2019.

And that is very much the match post. I need to get into the car for a bit of a drive, but I'll be back in time for the 3pm matches, drinking wine and probably feeling quite fine. Until then, three points for Southampton anyone?

Match facts from the BBC

Head-to-head

  • This is the most played fixture in English league history. Aston Villa have won 80 games to Everton's 76, while 56 have been drawn.

  • Villa are unbeaten in all 10 Premier League games versus Everton since returning to the top flight in 2019, winning seven and drawing three.

  • Everton have won just four times in their 29 Premier League visits to Villa Park.

  • The last Toffees player to score a league goal at Villa Park was Romelu Lukaku in March 2016.

Aston Villa

  • Aston Villa can win three of their opening four matches for just the second time in the past 10 Premier League seasons.

  • However, Villa could lose their opening two home games of a Premier League campaign for only the second time, after 2013-14.

  • They have won just four of their last 12 league games at Villa Park, following a run of 15 successive victories.

  • Villa have conceded multiple goals in nine of their last 11 Premier League home matches.

  • Ollie Watkins could match his career-worst tally of going nine successive Premier League fixtures without scoring.

  • Jhon Duran has scored seven Premier League goals despite making only three career starts in the division. His tally of six goals as a substitute since the start of last season is the most of any Premier League player.

Everton

  • Everton are the third club to lose their opening three Premier League games in consecutive seasons, after Southampton and West Ham United.

  • The Toffees could lose their opening four league matches for the first time since 1958. They drew their fourth game of last season at Sheffield United.

  • They are in danger of registering five successive Premier League defeats for the first time in 19 years.

  • Everton are winless in 13 away matches in all competitions since a 2-0 Premier League triumph at Burnley on 16 December.

  • They have failed to score multiple goals in any of their last 12 league away fixtures.

  • Everton have lost eight of the past 10 Premier League games following an international break, including all four matches last season.

  • Dominic Calvert-Lewin has scored five and set up two of Everton's 12 most recent Premier League goals.

  • Sean Dyche is winless in all six Premier League games as a manager against Unai Emery, only avoiding defeat in Everton's goalless draw versus Villa at Goodison Park in January.
