Day five, PSR and VAR, the game really is broken

So, five in a row. I confess I didn't think I'd make it this far but now I have I can see me getting to ten. We should have a sweepstake on how far this goes because the last time I managed five days in a row is probably a good seven to ten years ago.

And back then, not every post was solely focused on Aston Villa. Villa was at the core and this post today is pretty much going to be like that.

You see and I've written this for years, the game is broken and it just keeps getting worse. The handball decision in the first match of the season. How could VAR not see that that was handball. I get why the referee might not have seen it and if anything, this just goes to confirm why VAR has to go - they can't even get it right when it's wrong.

And last night, the penalty awarded to Leeds. I might be wrong when I write this and maybe we'll never know, but the referee looked to be getting instructions in his ear before pointing to the spot. It was almost as if it wasn't his decision and you'll never have seen my write this next part, but I'm with David Moyes on this, I don't think that's a penalty.

And here is the thing, why didn't VAR get involved to say it wasn't a penalty. It hit is upper arm that was tucked to the side of his body. What's a player supposed to do?

But that's enough of me moaning about VAR. I'm going to turn my attention to PSR and this is just another factor on why the game is broken. Don't get me wrong, it's a good thing to try and protect Clubs, supporters and everyone involved but at the expense of keeping us in lanes and not allowing Clubs to really progress, what's the point?

It really doesn't feel fair. I'd go so far as to say it feels like it's wrong. Don't get me wrong, we don't want to see any Club go bust, just like none of us want to lose our houses. But the bank is there to say yes or no to a loan based on our income and how much we are putting down. And then we can still buy insurance for if the worst happens.

Why does it have to be so black and white and in such a way that it benefits the Clubs that basically overspent before all these rules came in to force?

I wrote the other day, why not just put a limit of how much a Club can spend in salary. If the most a single player can make a season is £3mn for example and most Clubs can pay that, there must be some math out there that suggests transfer fees would come down too because players could play anywhere.

But I know this isn't going to work, because money is what makes the world go round. But £3mn a season for 5 years. Players would never need to work again. I know, broken record.

Anyway, back to Aston Villa. Leon Bailey looks off and there are more rumours about Martinez. Have I missed anything today?
