You can't be blamed if you think the match at the weekend doesn't matter. The season is over, we're not going down and the FA Cup final is just around the corner. But it does matter. It matters for Sherwood because he's going to want to finish as far away from when he took over as possible.
And continuity is important. We don't want to lose this weekend after last weekend and then have Arsenal. Confidence could be shot. Although it could also be what Sherwood needs to give them a kick up the backside for the final, because if we play like we did against Southampton, Arsenal will spank us for ninety minutes in a way that will make us enjoy getting spanked.
I'm not trying to suggest that if something horrible, like cabbage, is forced on you every day for a year that you'll eventually start to enjoy it, but if we let Arsenal play the way they can and we approach the game in the same way we did Southampton, nobody should be surprised if we get beaten. Disappointed and angry for sure, just not surprised.
News, not speculation
But the real point of this post is that we have some news and you'll know what it is by now and it's that Scott Sinclair has signed a four year deal with the club and it's good one. Not that I know about the deal, but the deal is a good one.
The bits we saw of Sinclair were positive. He liked to get forward, had the confidence to take a shot and also knew where the goal was. It's what we need from midfield and the wings.
And I'm in the camp that thinks this is taking us one step closer to a very good season next year, as long as Sherwood brings in that extra player or two to make next season what it can be. I hope he doesn't go mental, we've got very good players at the club like Grealish, Gardner and now Sinclair, that we need to give the opportunities to.
So well done Scott, you've made the right decision and as for this weekend; we need to win for lots of reasons. I think we will.
