Valencia, Milner, Rapid Vienna and Nigel Reo-Coker

Martin O'Neill has spoken about James Milner and indicated that there are talks and that something might happen over the next few days.

If the speculation is true and we are getting £15mn for him plus Stephen Ireland - I think everyone has to be happy.

Martin O'Neill
We didn't play him against Valencia as there could be something happening in terms of the transfer over the weekend or Monday or Tuesday. Until that possibly develops I thought it best to leave him out of the Valencia game.

To my knowledge, no fee has been agreed but talks are taking place involving our chief executive and the chairman. I think for everyone's benefit it is probably time to try and get something done.

Don't get me wrong, I will probably miss his work rate - it is second to none - but £15mn plus Stephen Ireland is sale of the century.

Pre-season

Aston Villa drew with Valencia last night at Villa Park in a pre-season friendly.

Europa LDV League

We got Rapid Vienna in the Europa League. I'm not sure if the manager is taking this competition seriously, so until he tells us he is, I'm not getting too excited or interested in the competition.

You might think that a bit harsh but Moscow didn't happen that long ago and it could happen again with this manager.

Saturday speculation

Lastly today - the rumour that wont happen. It is suggested in, you guessed it, The Mirror, that Sam Allardyce is going to try and tempt Nigel Reo-Coker with regular football at Blackburn Rovers.

First - Reo-Coker is better than Blackburn. Second, the chances are high he is going to see out his contract, which expires next summer and leaving now would only put in jeopardy a big pay day for him.

Right - that is it. Some news, a match, the manager and some speculation. What more could you want?
