Hands up, I had no real idea about this tournament so I've been off reading up and trying to learn as much as possible in a short space of time and the best site is the official Peace Cup site, so you can always visit it yourself.
What is this tournament though and does it mean we can win some silverware? Well, it's a football tournament held every two years and it was originally set up to promote world peace.
For us to win some silverware, against teams like Juventus and Real Madrid, we'll need to win five games, it is possible, but chances are we'll get to the semi-finals and Martin O'Neill will rest players for the league season coming up.
I'm only joking. It's not a serious tournament, it's a pre-season warm up tournament used to promote something positive and should be a good place for the players get pick up match fitness, playing against some quality players.
As it stands now, apart from Juventus and Real Madird, the other teams that have been confirmed are Liga de Quito, F.C. Porto, Olympique Lyonnais and Sevilla but the Wiki page for this event also have Liverpool and Ajax down, although that isn't confirmed on the Peace Cup website, but neither are we.
Either way, it should be a good event and maybe we'll see a match against Mellberg and if Liverpool are in, maybe Barry will be playing against us, or maybe not.
It will be interesting though and one to follow and I have a feeling a few will be travelling out, it would be a great time to book your summer holiday now, without telling the wife the real reason.
