Petrov about to sign, O'Neill to swoop for Baggies ace and the seven deadly sins of football

A little speculation, some news about Petrov and a feature coming on Mark Bosnich, which I think might be of interest to a few this afternoon. Other than that, it's almost time for my dinner and a start of my new regime; a glass of red win a night.

First is the rumour that doesn't surprise and we're looking to bring in our first relegated player of the summer in the form of Chris Brunt. Now, you would be forgiven for not knowing much about him, so I hope you'll forgive me. I've watched a few West Brom games this season but I've got to say he didn't stand out, in such a way that it made me think 'he'd be better suited in claret and blue'.

The talk is that fifteen scouts watched him at the weekend and that an offer of £4.5mn. will be enough to secure his services. Brunt joined West Brom from Sheffield Wednesday for £3mn. in 2007, a decent enough return for West Brom, should they accept the offer and you've got to fancy that the player would want a move back to the Premier League, if it was to present itself and it really is all about player power these days.

It is speculation, so at that point, I'm going to walk away, but I will mention that it looks like Petrov is about to sign a new contract with the club.

Stiliyan Petrov
It's been going well. I think we're in the final phase now. Things could happen in the next few weeks. We are nearly there, I can say that.

I'd love Petrov to sign and if he does it will some excellent news and if we could get back to a three man central midfield, you've got to fancy with an additional quality singing this summer, we're only going to see Petrov get better, which if he can do that on the back of this season, it's good news all round.

More news and this time it's about Mark Bosnich and a special feature coming up in the Guardian newspaper (not sure if it's online). They've had a football supplement running since Saturday and tomorrow it's about Bosnich and Gazza, titled Gluttony.

The series is called 'Foul Play: The Seven Deadly Sins of Football' and you can read a little more about it here.

Just in case you didn't know, gluttony is derived from the Latin word 'gluttire', meaning to gulp down or swallow. Gluttony is the over-indulgence and over-consumption of food, drink, or intoxicants to the point of waste. In respect to mark Bosnich it's probably to do with food and cocaine. Should be an interesting read.

Right, I'm off to open that bottle of red wine.
