Well, this is a presumptive post but it is looking like Paul Lambert is the next manager of Aston Villa. Why do I think this? Well, Rodgers has accepted the Liverpool job, we are told from Wigan that Martinez is staying for another season and we all know that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer got talked out of resigning, so with Lambert the only name left and him handing in his resignation, it doesn't take a genius to figure out what is probably going on.
It is thought that the club wanted Solskjaer to resign and why Lambert has resigned, so they didn't end up paying another large chunk of cash for a manager when they shouldn't have to. With Lambert standing up to his end of the bargain, it is now only a matter of time before we see the news on the club site.
But this is all an assumption. It could be that Spurs are in for him because they fear Harry moving to Chelsea and we really could be about to get André Villas-Boas. But I doubt it. Lambert fits in with what Aston Villa have told us and when it was only Lambert, Rodgers and Martinez, I think I fancied Lambert more, although that could just be the optimism brewing inside, I don't rightly remember with certainty.
Lambert for Villa
So seeing as all things point to Lambert coming, I guess we have to embrace and welcome him and wait to see what he can do. He isn't Alex McLeish and he has never managed The Clowns, so it could be a lot worse and he does bring with him hope.
One thing is for sure; it can not be worse than last season and expectations of a top half finish are more than realistic with Lambert. Based on how much money is made available to him and the type of player that he can attract, you'd like to hope that we can even do quite a bit better.
Quick question
So, on a scale of one to five, one been Alex McLeish joining and five the absolute happiest you have ever felt about a new manager coming to Aston Villa, where are you right now?
