Names make things personal and people, me included, create attachments to people and names but the only name that really matters is that of Aston Villa. I mention that because it was Aston Villa that beat Feyenoord 3-1 last night and Aston Villa that will play Benfica tonight.
You'll know this because we are starting to talk about football again, but the league starts very very soon and isn't that what we all love; football?
You will also know that I'm a big fan of Marc Albrighton and he didn't hurt his chances of more football next season last night either after scoring and generally having a good game - if he gets another run out tonight, I'm sure it will be all good again.
The goals came from Albrighton, Heskey and Sidwell last night and the manager was happy, particularly with Albrighton.
Martin O'Neill
It was a fantastic goal. I have just seen it back and he was a good 35 yards out. He has hit it fantastically. He has had a great pre-season and I am delighted for him. I didn't know after the Walsall game he was questioned by a journalist and was asked if he thought he was good enough for the Premier League and he said he was a Premier League player. Good for him - well done!
He has got the talent to do that and I am pleased. I haven't heard it and Albrighton doesn't strike me as the sort of lad who would be boasting about his ability but great. I am glad. He has that confidence and he is going great. I am very pleased for him.
His game has improved from say this time last season - where he did fine. I'm sure he will be looking to make a real big impression this season.
We shouldn't be surprised though. This time last year we were banging the drum about Milner in the middle and after the Peace Cup we asked you who should play on the right and even then, a year ago - most picked Albrighton. Hopefully this season he will get a proper chance.
But, he must get a proper chance and not just a game or two - he needs a run, much like The Fonz needs a run or a series of games they both know they are going to play in. I think it might happen and I think others might get a chance too.
Right - no rumours today, just a good win last night and another match tonight with more chances for some of the younger players to impress and if you didn't know - VillaStreams are showing the game tonight, so if you're a bit bored and want to watch, you can. It is only a friendly, but it is Aston Villa.
