Some will say it was a brave decision, I did at the start of the night, but changing around a team and formation that scored three goals at Anfield on Monday night will ultimately be the topic of discussion tomorrow.
Why change a winning team Mr O'Neill? Why change a winning formation Mr O'Neill? They were always going to score one goal tonight and we were ultimately extremely lucky they didn't score three let alone the one that they needed.
I called it a brave decision at the start of the night, but ultimately it was a mistake from the manager and one that he would have known if he had played Championship Manager earlier; the game said don't change a winning formation!
For all our possession we did little with it, especially when you compare it to what Rapid Vienna did and basically for all the talk from Martin O'Neill this week about booing fans and him being surprised because we have European football, well, we don't have it any more.
There will be more tomorrow, this is just a news post to let a few know that we are out but my bottom line is while we did okay and it is our fault we are not through, having missed a penalty, the manager shouldn't have changed it around from a winning team.
I wonder what the manager will say later because we were actually beaten by the better team but before we get to that, let's look on the bright side.
We are out of Europe and can quite literally concentrate on the league now. We should play the kids and fringe players in the League Cup and put all our efforts into the league and FA Cup.
There can surely not be any excuses now when it comes to fitness. there is a bright side.
