Bannan joins Derby

Following on from Sam Williams joining Brentford and Stuart Taylor looking likely to join Cardiff, left-footed dynamo Barry Bannan has joined Derby for a month.

Bannan is one of the most exciting prospects at Villa Park (despite a recent national newspaper telling us that they were Isiah Osbourne and Craig Gardner) and he should get five or six games in for Derby during his loan spell. He is set to go straight into the squad to play Sheffield United on Saturday.

I’d like to see MON and McAndrew get a few more loan deals for some of our other kids like Adam McGurk, Marc Albrighton, Shane Lowry, Chris Herd and Ciaran Clark. I know a few of them have already been on loan, but getting games under the belt is what it is all about at that age.

If they can’t hack it in League One then they’re not going to hack it in the Premier League. Any of the kids that can hold their own in the Championship should be able to step up with the right support from the club.

However, I think a few of the lads may get released at the end of the season, but I don’t know who at this stage. You’d think Sam Williams is a possible lad to be let go, although he might be given one more year to prove himself after his injury lay-offs. Adam McGurk is in the same boat so only time will tell.

I’ve noticed Lawro has us down to win against Spurs. His predictions about Villa haven’t been spot on recently but hopefully he’ll get this one right. It makes a change for him to back the Villa.

Have a good weekend and enjoy the match on Sunday!
