According to reports, six players have been told they can leave if the right offer comes in. These are, if reports are to be believed, Curtis Davies, Luke Young, Nigel Reo-Coker, Steve Sidwell, Nicky Shorey and Habib Beye.
Now, I'm not a mathematician, but by my reckoning those six players cost us about £35mn and while none of us will know with any certainty how much they cost us a week, if you were to say that they cost us £200,000 a week you probably wouldn't be far off.
If you hadn't figured it out, they are all Martin O'Neill purchases and they probably all feel a little hard done by and if the report is true, that they can go if the price is right, it will be very interesting to see what those prices turn out to be.
What I mean is, of the £10mn we paid West Brom for 25 year old Davies; how much will we get back? This is just speculation but is quite possibly true but how much could we get for them today and what does this tell us about our managers ability to buy players and will Downing be told he can go next summer?
Sorry the news is a bit thin on the ground at the moment but with so many players jetting off on holiday and others getting ready for the World Cup, there is little going on and with the news yesterday that we have a new PM that just happens to be an Aston Villa fan, the press have not had much time to create some new Aston Villa rumours, although I am confident they will come and I am not counting the Benayoun one.
The Gaffer is back
There is the piece over on The Gaffer though about Liverton Villa winning the league. Liverton Villa are a coalition club made up of us and Liverpool. The Gaffer is back - go read.
