It turns out that Randy Lerner might prefer the claret and blue too as news broke today that he is in talks to sell the Cleveland Browns, although to be very specific the news is that he is in talks looking for an investment, but naturally the speculation has moved on to him selling.
And what does this mean to Aston Villa? Well, truth is, none of us know. We also don't know what he will get for the Browns if he sells them but talk is about £600mn and that does go a long way.
But we shouldn't get excited, the money isn't his to spend, but you'd think, or hope, that if there is an extra $1bn going into the family account, some of that might be made available for his soccer club in England.
His time a moment, and a point his space
So we can hope and we know what that means, but we should look at the evidence we have in front of us and you know what, it actually points to him throwing in some cash if he has some, but this is just news of something that might be happening - it might not and the actual news could actually be true; it is just an investment and if it is just an investment, it's for the Browns and not us.
In other news
Something started the other day about Brad Guzan going out on loan for a few months. It turns out it isn't true, or actually, it turns out that Guzan doesn't know about it, so I guess we can take that as it isn't happening.
There is even more news speculation that Ron Vlaar is flying into Birmingham tonight or tomorrow to seal the deal. Not sure how true this is, but if I see him in the shirt sometime soon, we'll add him to the column to the right.
And I'm sure there is more, but for now, I'm going out for a beer to talk football and there is another Villa fan with us tonight, so hopefully we'll get the upper hand against a Liverpool and Arsenal fan.
