Aston Villa beaten by Fulham after another flat performance

I don't know what I can write to pretend it is anything other than what it is and what it is, is a worry. Things look like this is the typical second season for a manager just promoted that did well in his first. Not many survive after the first.

But we never went for it today. Gabby had the opportunity to run at a 32 year old full back for ninety minutes and put cross in after cross and he didn't. The one time he did have a go at Aaron Hughes he beat him and got the cross in. He didn't try it again.

For the life of me, I don't know why. It was clear as day to me before the match that we have to do that and all we've done is play too through the middle time after time. Don't get me wrong, we've passed the ball around a bit too, but so much in our own half and so little when up front.

I might be wrong with this next stat but I think Fulham had three times as many goal attempts than us and we only had two of the five or six we had on target. Two shots on target in ninety minutes. Christ, I would have done better.

At the end of the day

To summarise what I read somewhere earlier; it was a flat performance. It was only the last ten minutes that we looked like chasing the game but in that time the only thing of note that happened was Benteke missing another great opportunity, not even hitting the target.

But we had to chase the game from kick off, not when we went one down with minutes to go and we have to start doing it very soon, because we can't keep losing and putting in performances like that, even if the players enjoy training.
