Aston Villa 2 Wigan 0: Not the best game, but three points is all that matters

Three points is the most important thing from today. The most surprising is probably that the out and out man of the match was Gabby Agbonlahor - without him today, it is fair to say the game could have ended 0-0.

He scored the first after Barry Bannan spotted him with lots of space to run into, but it wasn't all done. He had to pick up the ball and he ran at Wigan down the left, brought it inside and shot just inside the box into the top of the next.

The second goal, was pretty much all Gabby. He won the ball back 10 yards into the Wigan half, ran thirty-five yards down the left, before crossing for Bent, but it could have been anyone and they would have scored. It really was an inch perfect cross.

So, I think it fair to say you know who my man of the match is, but the game was far from inspiring, but I don't care. All I want is the three points and today we got it and I also had a winning bet, so double bonus.

Wigan played the way Wigan played and I like it. They want to keep the ball and the play some good stuff, but half of me wonders what it could have been like had Martinez joined in the summer. Don't get me wrong, we defended well and I don't mind if we do that and pick up the points, but Wigan played some decent stuff today, just undone by our numbers.

Anyway, a reason for a beer and a celebratory mood. Report of sorts coming tomorrow or Monday but in the meantime, why not vote for your man of the match to the right. I have a feeling I know where this is going.
