Final day of the season: Martin O'Neill, Slaven Bilic, Steve Sidwell and Blackburn live

There is plenty of football to come this summer but today our season ends and it could end in one of three ways; fifth, sixth or seventh. I fancy it will be sixth, as that is the most likely, but all three are possible and it makes for an almost exciting end.

We will be doing live updates from here today and on Twitter and I think today will take on a different feel, because it is a sad day and the last one for a while, but before we get to that, we have other things.

Sunday Speculation

First up is the news that Slaven Bilic has emerged as the frontrunner to succeed Martin O'Neill who, it's rumoured, will leave Villa Park in the summer due to his uneasy relationship with owner Randy Lerner.

If that one is true, then there is the chance that O'Neill will be managing at Liverpool because they have decided to go British in their search for a new manager, with Aston Villa's Martin O'Neill their number one target, which did make me chuckle because while I wouldn't be surprised if O'Neill did walk I'd be very surprised if a team like Liverpool went for O'Neill.

But the best rumour of the day because I wouldn't be surprised if it happened is that Fulham could pick up midfielder Steven Sidwell on a cut price deal after he was told he can quit Aston Villa.

Martin O'Neill and his job at Aston Villa

We really need to put this to bed. O'Neill is going nowhere. Okay, we haven't been told that and it is only that we have been led to believe that is the case, but it is O'Neill and General PR that have led us to believe that - one is the man himself, the other speaks occasionally about Aston Villa with the owner. They might not have said directly that he is staying, but they have led us to believe it to be the case, which in this day and age, is as good as.

Blackburn at Villa Park

We will add team news here and on Twitter, updates will begin properly from about 1pm, so please come back and join us. It should be a fund day.
