We asked for your thoughts on Saturday's game between West Ham and Aston Villa in the Premier League.

Here are some of your responses:

    West Ham fans

Jay: Absolutely robbed! VAR is ruining football. Taking 10 minutes to make a decision is not 'obvious' and it shouldn't count. VAR has robbed us in the past three games. The lads played unbelievably and Moyes should come out like this every week!

Dave: Yet again another Moyes cock up with the use of substitutes. Why, with a fair length of the game to go, does Moyes take off our main striker and put on a defender. It’s senseless when you have that much time left and are only one goal up. This is two points lost because of poor management. Hurry up and go, Moyes.

Richard: Moyes' tactics again. He took off Antonio and brought on a defender, Ben Johnson, who is arguably not Premier League quality anyway. If Antonio is tired, why not replace him with Danny Ings? 1-0 was not enough. We needed to attack, not defend the lead.

Ted: Once more, terrible officiating in the Premier League. The richest football league in the world. Awful officiating every week - week in and week out. The pundits and fans talk about the execrable referees and bizarre VAR.

    Villa fans

Keith: We were lucky not to lose this game, but it was a very welcome point. Villa played well and were the better team. We have to be better in defence and, more importantly, in front of goal, if we are going to consolidate a fourth-place finish.

Brian: A poor first half for Villa, with some very sloppy work in defence. There were too many unforced errors. We looked like a different team in the second half but, in the end, we were lucky to come away with a point.

Paul: We dodged one at the end, but it was a fair result overall. I think West Ham were better in first half, but Villa were much better in the second half.

Pammy: As usual, a sub-standard and lethargic performance after a European tie. Far too casual in the first half, but thankfully a point rescued by the second half substitutes and change in formation. The Watkins-Duran idea just didn’t work and Rogers is not good enough. A decent point in the end and it keeps the pressure on Spurs and Manchester United. Another fairy step to a top-four finish!

Nicolo Zaniolo rescued a point for Aston Villa against West Ham at London Stadium.

The substitute scored in the 79th minute after getting on the end of a Moussa Diaby cutback.

Only Liverpool (22), Arsenal (18) and Newcastle (18) have had more goal involvements from substitutes in the Premier League this season than Aston Villa (17 - eight goals, nine assists).

Both of Zaniolo’s league goals for Villa this term have been second-half equalisers after coming off the bench – with the Italian also levelling things up vs Sheffield United in December 2023.

Villa are three points clear of fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur but were off the pace in the first half of this encounter and found it hard to break down West Ham.

They increased the tempo after the break as Ezri Konsa and Youri Tielmans had efforts palmed away by home goalkeeper Alphonse Areola but were unable to find a second goal.

Unai Emery will be expecting a much-improved performance when Villa host Wolves on 30 March (17:30 GMT).

  4. West Ham 1-1 Aston Villa: What Emery saidpublished at 16:43 17 March

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has been speaking to BBC Match of the Day following the draw: "We didn't control the game in the first half. We were not progressing to impose our position. When they are connecting with their attacking players, they scored one goal.

"We changed tactics in the second half, we got chances to score a goal, and in the end we did score. The second half, we deserve it more than the first half. The referee decided it was a handball.

"We had a plan before the match and the plan can change. The players had to be ready and focused in case we needed them, like today. [Nicolo] Zaniolo is working and he is focused.

"In this Premier League level, it is difficult because the set-piece takers are good. It is important to not concede set-pieces. Overall, I think tactically in the second half we dominated and imposed our position.

"It is better to win, but we drew. I think it's good and we have to accept it."

  5. West Ham 1-1 Aston Villa: What Zaniolo saidpublished at 16:33 17 March

Aston Villa goalscorer Nicolo Zaniolo has been speaking to BBC Match of the Day following the draw: "It was a very good match. In the first half, they were more aggressive, but we played well in the second half.

"Our team is very good. We competed well today and we have to fight.

"It will be very hard [the top four fight], but we are a very good team. We have a very good coach and we prepare very well."

  6. West Ham 1-1 Aston Villa: Key statspublished at 16:28 17 March

Here are the key facts and figures following Sunday afternoon's game between West Ham United and Aston Villa in the Premier League.

    • West Ham are unbeaten in their past five Premier League matches played on the weekend immediately after playing a European game (W2 D3).

    • Aston Villa are now unbeaten in each of their past five away matches in the Premier League (W3 D2). They last went longer without defeat on the road in the competition between November 2008 and February 2009 (a run of seven games).

    • West Ham have lost just one of their 12 matches against Aston Villa in the Premier League since the start of the 2015-16 season (W6 D5).

    • Only Liverpool (22), Arsenal (18) and Newcastle (18) have had more goal involvements from substitutes in the Premier League this season than Aston Villa (17 - 8 goals, 9 assists). Their equaliser, which was scored by Nicolo Zaniolo and assisted by Moussa Diaby, was the third instance of two substitutes combining for a league goal for Villa this season.

    • Michail Antonio’s opening goal was his first for West Ham since netting against Brighton in the Premier League in August 2023, ending a run of 17 consecutive matches across all competitions without a goal.

Nicolo Zaniolo rescued a Premier League point for Champions League chasers Aston Villa against West Ham at London Stadium.

Moussa Diaby's cut-back into the box was expertly prodded home by the Italian as he scored his second league goal for Villa.

Michail Antonio had put the Hammers in front after scoring his first Premier League goal since August.

The Jamaica international executed a superb diving header, getting on the end of Vladimir Coufal's pinpoint delivery in the 29th minute.

Antonio had a second ruled out for handball shortly after the break as he was adjudged to have used his arm to convert Jarrod Bowen's cross.

Tomas Soucek thought he had won it for West Ham in the dying stages of added-time, but it was also ruled out for handball after a lengthy check.

David Moyes' side remain seventh while Villa are three points clear of fifth-placed Tottenham.

  9. Sutton's predictions: West Ham v Aston Villapublished at 11:05 17 March

    Sutton's predictions graphic

BBC Sport football expert Chris Sutton is making predictions for every Premier League game this season, against a variety of guests.

For this weekend's games, he takes on Anna Friedberg and Emily Linden from alt-rock band Friedberg.

    Sutton's prediction: 1-2

Both these teams were in action in Europe on Thursday, and it is going to be interesting to see how much those ties take out of them - but I still think Aston Villa will win this one.

Villa have more quality than the Hammers, as they showed when they beat them 4-1 in October.

Unai Emery's side always create chances and, even in their 4-0 defeat against Tottenham last time out, if they had been more clinical then it would have been a very different game.

    Anna and Emily's prediction: 2-2

  11. West Ham v Aston Villa: Pick of the statspublished at 10:54 15 March

Here are the key facts and figures before Sunday's game between West Ham and Aston Villa in the Premier League.

    • West Ham are unbeaten in their past eight Premier League home games against Aston Villa, since a 2-1 loss in April 2011 under Avram Grant.

    • Following their 4-1 win at Villa Park in October, Aston Villa are looking to complete the Premier League double over West Ham for just the second time, previously doing so in 2010-11.

    • Aston Villa are unbeaten in eight Premier League games in London under Unai Emery (W6 D2), winning the past four in a row, having lost eight of their previous nine under Steven Gerrard/Dean Smith. It's their longest run without defeat, and joint-longest winning run in the capital in their league history.

    • After a winless run of six Premier League games from the start of the year (D3 L3), West Ham have now won two of their last three (D1). They’ve scored nine goals in these three matches, just one fewer than they’d managed in their previous 10 league games combined (10).

    • Danny Ings scored his first Premier League goal of the season in West Ham’s 2-2 with Burnley last time out. He played 48 Premier League games for Aston Villa, and could become the third player to score a Premier League goal against four different teams he’s previously played for in the competition (Burnley, Liverpool, Southampton) along with Peter Crouch and Nicolas Anelka.

    • Ollie Watkins’ 16 Premier League goals have been worth 13 points to Aston Villa this season, with no player’s strikes being more valuable for their side this term. It’s the most points a Villa player has earned with his goals in a single top-flight campaign since Christian Benteke in 2012-13 (14).

A night the Aston Villa fans will talk about for years and years to come.

Villa were absolutely superb as they thrashed four-time European champions Ajax to move into the last eight of the Europa Conference League - Villa's first major European quarter-final since 1998.

Boss Unai Emery spoke of how the match was "another wonderful opportunity against one of the biggest and most historic clubs in European football", adding "this is what Villa Park was made for".

He urged the fans to play their part, and they certainly did with the match played in a superb atmosphere at a sold-out stadium.

And the players responded with a dominant display.

Ollie Watkins headed in the first, but then had to go off injured, although Emery downplayed the severity of it later on, saying Watkins' injury was just a "cut".

After that, Leon Bailey made it 2-0 and the sending off of Ajax midfielder Sivert Mannsverk ended the Dutch side's hopes of a memorable fightback before Jhon Duran and Moussa Diaby added further goals on an unforgettable night for the Villa faithful.

Villa will find out their opponents in the draw at 13:00 GMT on Friday and Emery's side will be the team all the others want to avoid. On this showing, Villa are going to take some stopping in this competition.

  13. Emery 'always lets me know when I need to step up my game'published at 23:06 14 March

    Leon BaileyImage source, Getty Images

Aston Villa winger Leon Bailey says "a lot has changed" for him since Unai Emery joined the club and he's helped him to improve his all-around game.

Bailey, who scored Villa's second goal of the night, told TNT Sports: "Tonight was a brilliant night for the whole team and the fans. The atmosphere was brilliant.

"We're really happy with the result. We showed good character and spirit. We made it very difficult for them tonight.

"I was happy I could get the second goal, it was much needed.

"I've had a lot of discussions with the manager and he always tries to give me confidence. He always lets me know when I need to step up my game. I've been working with the staff members a lot in training about how to get more time on the ball and get more space. When I'm on the pitch I feel better in terms of my movement.

"It was difficult for me when I first came in because I didn't have a pre-season. I kept trying to come back and kept getting injured.

"Since the manager came in a lot has changed for me. I feel more relaxed and have more energy. It's really paying off. Details, that's why things have been going so great.

"It's an exciting moment for everyone. We should all be proud of where we are. We've worked very hard to be where we are. Enjoy the moment and stay humble and hopefully we can move further."

  14. 'We did it here with our supporters'published at 22:45 14 March

Leon Bailey scoredImage source, Getty Images

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery speaking to TNT Sports: "We're happy, it was very important to us. We tried to connect with our supporters.

"After the first leg we were analysing with the players and we knew before the match we needed to play better than we did there. The match was a bit slow in the first half.

"When we scored a second goal and they had a red card it was easier for us.

"It's experience for us. Confidence. We're trying to feel strong and we did it here with our supporters."

On Ollie Watkins' injury which forced him off the pitch: "We don't know exactly what the [issue] is. Maybe for Sunday he could be available.

"Diego Carlos is something with his hamstring, maybe he might not be available for Sunday."

  15. 'We don't want to stop here' - McGinnpublished at 22:23 14 March

Aston Villa playersImage source, Getty Images

Aston Villa captain John McGinn to TNT Sports: "It was a great performance and a good reaction from the weekend. It stung us but this was a chance to get a European quarter-finals for the first time in a long time.

"It's been a good night at Villa Park and I'm delighted with some of the players on the scoresheet. It's a bit of a worry with Ollie Watkins and Diego Carlos - we'll see how they are.

"Its going to lift us definitely. It's been a tough few days as we didn't perform in the big game.

"Tonight was a big game and a big reaction was needed and we showed a reaction.

"It's up there [with his best nights at Villa]. We want to achieve more. Tonight we've given the fans one to remember but we don't want to stop here.

"We didn't want the journey to end tonight and this was much better than the last two games for sure.

"I'm proud of them because it's been a tough few days. They now need to rest up for Sunday."
