Moving on from Delph as Idrissa Gueye arrives this weekend and Nice confirm Amavi deal

Let's forget about Delph for now and let's remember him if he makes the bench for Manchester City in November. We've already got some new £50 notes in production for you that you'll have in plenty of time to print off and wave to him. We're also thinking about a large graphic of Delph in the Garden of Eden with an apple in one hand a snake at his feet.

But for now, we have to move on because this weekend Idrissa Gueye arrives in Birmingham and on Monday he'll be plastered all over the club website wearing the the original claret and blue of Aston Villa. And it's worth pointing out that some in French football are already suggesting he's a better player than Delph.

And maybe he is, but I liked Delph and the way he left will always leave a sour taste in the mouth. But we must now look forward to Monday and we can also start looking forward to next season, as it's not far away. And seeing as I'm going to look at next season, why don't we look at some of the options.

Return of the Gil

The other day Tim Sherwood spoke about Carles Gil and how he sees him playing more as a number 10 than a winger and that he'll be much more involved this season. And from the little we saw of him last season, I tend to agree in so much he could be very good in the middle.

It also suggests the possibility of playing only one out and out striker, which again, is something I like. And when you play that way, you play with two central midfielders, so with Gueye and Westwood, it actually doesn't look that bad, if Gueye is as good as some French football pundits are suggesting.

It does mean there is a gap on the right hand side of midfield and the speculation surrounding Andros Townsend doesn't seem to want to go away.

So cards on the table; we've lost a midfielder and we're likely to lose Benteke, but it's not looking that bad. And lets not forget, even though I'm a huge fan of Delph as a player, he was hardly instrumental for us last season as the central midfielder should be. I mean, we finished one place above the relegation zone.

So with that written, I'd like to wish Fabian Delph good luck. You see, he's gone from a side where he would have been loved and respected to a side where he'll never have that level of admiration, because of the way he arrived. I think any person that puts themselves in that position needs all the luck they can get.

It's going to be hard for him and unless he has all the luck in the world he could very well find himself out of the England side and looking to find some regular football to try and get back in, but will anyone ever really trust him again? Sure, he's now set for life at a level he'd maybe never have got at Aston Villa, but as someone who talks about loyalty, he'll have regrets later in life and this will never really leave him. But he'll take comfort in the cash.

Amavi deal done according to his current club

And more news you're getting before our own club tell us; the deal for Jordan Amavi is apparently done. Looks like they work at the weekend.

Song of the day
